Allergies Tip: Clothes for the Job

We’ll be keeping it short and sweet with our One Good Thing post this month.  Here’s a tip if you suffer from allergies and also dedicate time to gardening, working in the yard, or doing other outdoor work and activities.  We suggest you dedicate something else as well….

Reduce Allergy Symptoms – Dedicate Some Clothes for the Job

  • Put together a set of clothes for gardening – ideally comfortable with good UV protection.
  • Put them on before you go out.
  • Take them off once you come back inside – possibly in the laundry room or garage.
  • Don’t bring them into your bedroom. Don’t keep wearing them for the rest of the day.

Finding Inspiration for Chores

Getting outdoors, moving, participating in nature (yes, even pulling weeds gets you closer to nature) are all wonderful habits for your mental and physical health.   That said, getting motivated for yardwork can be tough, so we’ll wrap up with a few ideas that may inspire you:

  • Mini Goals = Big Wins: Set a timer for 15 minutes. Just start. You’ll probably go longer once you’re in motion.
  • Think of It as a Workout: You’re burning calories, strengthening muscles, and soaking up vitamin D—all without a gym.
  • Nature Therapy: Time in the yard means fresh air, birdsong, sunshine. It’s a way to connect with the natural rhythm of the seasons.  That’s mental health gold.
  • Make It Entertainment Time: Queue up a podcast, audiobook, or playlist. Yardwork becomes your time to enjoy a good listen.

Enjoy the Day Even if You Have Allergies!

Planning ahead with the right clothing and getting out of it as soon as you’re finished might help you enjoy the day.  You may notice a difference with the puffy eyes, runny nose, and other symptoms.
