Ketamine therapy works by targeting specific receptors in the brain called NMDA receptors, which regulate glutamatergic neurotransmission and are responsible for mood and emotional regulation. Ketamine for bipolar disorder is administered via IV infusion over a period of about 40–60 minutes. After your infusion, we will monitor your vitals before discharging you into the care of a friend or loved one. You should not drive or operate heavy machinery until the next day.

Other side effects include dizziness, fuzzy vision, a sense of floating, or mild, non-threatening hallucinations. These side effects typically wear off within 1–2 hours of a ketamine infusion.
